Mediation Conference: Forging a career as a Mediator – What next?

On Friday, May 12, from 2 pm to 5 pm, The Bar of Ireland in partnership with King’s Inns, is hosting an in–person conference on “Forging a career as a Mediator: what next?”. This event is open to anyone interested in mediation – non–legal professionals and lawyers.

Mediation is a growing alternative to litigation. It is given special recognition in our civil justice system by the Mediation Act of 2017. If you are a practitioner considering entering this area, this 3–hour conference is for you. 

Topics

You will hear from leading practitioners on the following:

  • How you can become a successful Mediator
  • Why mediation is a growth area
  • How you can develop your mediation practice, win business and clients – bridging the gap between qualifying as a mediator and becoming a successful mediator
  • Public policy considerations in mediation 
  • If you need to specialise and what training is required

Programme Schedule: Friday, May 12

2 pm: Opening Remarks 

  • Welcome and introduction: Why mediation is an important growth area – the Hon Ms Justice Nuala Butler, judge of the Court of Appeal
  • Guest speaker 1: Why is mediation different? – Ber Barry–Murphy, Council President of the MII
  • Guest speaker 2: Andrea O’Neill, the MII and Irish Red Cross
  • How mediation has developed in Ireland: the journey so far – Teresa Blake SC, co–designer of King’s Inns’ advanced diploma in Mediation

Networking and Coffee

Panel discussion: When and where does mediation work well? Developing a Mediation Practice

Cost and Booking Details

  • The event is free – a suggested donation of €30 per head to the Irish Red Cross Mediation Project.
  • Booking is open to anyone interested in mediation.
