EN: Conference at King’s Inns on Employment Opportunities for Law Graduates as EU Lawyer–Linguists and Opportunities for Non–Lawyers as Interpreters and Translators
- 19h00, Tuesday 21 March
- Free conference
- Open to all
Many opportunities present in the field of lawyer–linguistics with the European Union. The CJEU is in the process of expanding its Irish language unit and recruits many Irish language lawyer–linguists. Ireland is now also the main source for English language lawyer–linguists with further opportunities presenting there.
The requirements for such positions, apart from EU citizenship, are a recognised law degree OR professional qualification as a barrister or solicitor AND fluency in the language you will be translating into (Irish/English), and two other EU languages (which can include Irish/English). Pay and conditions are excellent, and these positions are often a gateway to an even more rewarding EU career.
Opportunities also present for work at the EU and national level as interpreters and translators.
King’s Inns will hold an evening conference on Tuesday 21 March from 7 pm on these employment opportunities.
- The Hon. Mr Justice George Birmingham, President of the Court of Appeal and former Minister for European Affairs and Mr Patrick O’Donovan TD, Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, will open the event.
- M. Thierry Lefèvre, Director–General for Multilingualism, Court of Justice of the EU, will be the keynote speaker.
- Other speakers will include Ms Morag Neath, Head of Unit for Irish and English interpretation at the European Commission, and an tUas. Vivian Uíbh Eachach, Chief Translator, Houses of the Oireachtas.
