On behalf of the Benchers of King’s Inns, The Hon. Bernard Barton attended the Armistice Remembrance Day in Belfast
At the invitation of Lady Chief Justice Dame Siobhán Keegan, The Hon. Bernard Barton, a Bencher of The Honorable Society of King’s Inns, attended the Armistice Remembrance Day ceremony in the Great Hall, Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast, on Thursday 11 November 2021.
The Lady Chief Justice first lifted a wreath from the bench and placed it at the foot of the War Memorial to the memory of those members of the Bar who fell in the First World War.
Then, straight afterwards, Judge Barton lifted a wreath from the bench and placed it at the foot of the War Memorial to the memory of those members of the Bar who fell in the First World War.
Other wreaths were laid by members of the Bar Council of Northern Ireland and Law Society of Northern Ireland to honour those members of the Bar as well as the Solicitors’ profession in the First and Second World War.
Two Minutes’ Silence was observed after the ceremony.

Judge Barton presented a copy of ‘Wigs and Guns’, a book on the Irish Barristers who fell in the Great War, to Lord Stephens, the Northern Ireland representative on the UK Supreme Court, and to Dame Siobhán Keegan, the Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, which he inscribed to mark the occasion on behalf of the Benchers of King’s Inns.
