COVER TO CANVAS ARTIST OF THE DAY – Mike Bunn, Master Photographer
We are extremely lucky to have Mike as an artist for our exhibition. His achievements are too many to list and span 6 decades across the globe (check out this recent ‘Irish Arts Review‘ article).
Mike regards himself as a visual interpreter or inquisitor who was gifted me at birth with an incredible memory and great vision and powers of observation.
He describes his visual interpretation for our King’s Inns Cover to Canvas art exhibition as…
”THE HARBINGERS GATE“
It took an instant of time as I passed the gates at the top of Henrietta St. into The King’s Inns to be visually distracted by the long shadows being cast onto the cobbles through their wrought iron ribs by a very strong, low, late winter sun. I stopped, took a photograph and knew I had something that was a punctuation of a full stop.
Because of what the King’s Inns and Library represent, where justice/law is studied and researched with its vast collection of books, I thought of the title straight away.
One or something that foreshadows and sees the coming of future events – in decision making – finding “lodgings”?
The location of the gates dictated to me in this case that the harbinger could be a future – judge – senior council – barrister – or a clerk of the court – fully aware of what IS to come and prepared for the outcome – the opening and closing of gates.
