Diploma in Legal Studies

Policy and Application process for Students that have paid their tuition fees and wish to withdraw from the Diploma in Legal Studies before the course commences.

Deferred Entry and Leave of Absence

Repeats and Appeals

Degree of Barrister–at–Law

Entrance Exam Application Fee.  This is a non–refundable fee.  An application for a refund of the fees will be considered in the following circumstances (an administration fee of €250 will apply):

  • Serious Medical Issue supported by a Medical Certificate
  • Change of Eligibility Status
  • Bereavement of a close family member or friend

SUSI Grant

Applicants for SUSI grant must pay the fees in full before commencement of the course. This requirement is set by SUSI, not King’s Inns. Fee payment options are as follows: 

  • payment in full €12,560 on acceptance of place on or before 14 September or
  • by two part payments – €6,280 on acceptance of place on or before 14 September and €6,280 on or before 1 December.

SUSI will only approve grant payments on proof of payment of fees. If SUSI approves the grant application, we will reimburse the grant amount when received by King’s Inns.

Advanced Diploma Courses

Cancellations and Refunds

Students that have paid their fees and wish to withdraw from any Advanced Diploma course before the course commences will receive a full refund less an administration fee of €150.

If a student wishes to withdraw:

  • within 2 weeks of the commencement of the course, King’s Inns will refund 75% of the fees paid.
  • between 2 weeks and 4 weeks of the commencement of the course, King’s Inns will refund 30% of the fees paid.
  • after 4 weeks of course commencement, students forfeit their fees and no fees will be refunded.

In all cases, applicants may apply for the course in subsequent years and the full fee applicable at that time must be paid.

Deferrals and Extensions

Requests for deferrals or extensions cannot be accommodated for our Advanced Diploma courses.

Repeats and Appeals

The opportunity to repeat an exam is dependent on the course being offered in the subsequent year. King’s Inns does not provide any commitment to facilitating repeat exams in the Advanced Diploma courses. 

Access to course materials is not included in the repeat fee. Repeat assignments must be submitted by the due date.

No lodgement of appeals are accepted for Advanced Diploma courses. Decision by both the Board of Examiners and the Education Committee are final.
